History of the POA
A POA number 1 was developed around 1954, after Leslie Boomhower, an Iowa breeder of Shetland Ponies, founded a breed. Her Arabian/Appaloosa mare accidentally gave birth to the foal sired by the Shetland Pony entire. A ensuant colt was known as Black H&, and he became a foundation sire for the breed.
